Invasive fungal infections

Invasive fungal infection is a growing public health issue. Each year, more than 6.5 million people worldwide develop serious invasive fungal infections, including approximately 2.1 million with invasive aspergillosis, 1.8 million with chronic pulmonary aspergillosis, and 1.5 million with invasive candidiasis. Fungal infections have surpassed tuberculosis, malaria, hepatitis, and pneumonia, accounting for 6.7% of the ±55 million deaths worldwide each year. Furthermore, the rapid emergence of antifungal drug resistance exacerbates the limited access to appropriate diagnosis and treatment. Rapid and highly accurate testing tools are needed for early detection and timely treatment, thereby reducing the mortality rate of this dangerous disease.
